Title: Printed skull

For a project of the VUMC, students Jasper van Gestel, Stephan Hoffmann, Sjaak Kok, Patrick Horn, Daphne de Wit, Bart van der Gullik and Raphael Pedroso Albuquerque (last three not in photo) build this Bioplotter, a 3D printer for biomaterials. Other students have built the prototype last year. These seven improved the software, electronics and printing heads in a way that this device is able to print bio materials like: cells, skin and bone tissue but bioplastics as well. With this Bioplotter researchers and doctors decide for themselves what they print: a prosthetic made of bioplastic or custom piece of tissue. The students are experimenting at the moment with bioplastic to correct a nose and a silicone cap to precisely radiate an ear.
